Aussie Accent
I had a surprising conversation with a travel agent of which a small snippet is as follows:
'Will you be travelling with an Austalian passport?'
'...No. Do I sound Australian?' I replied, surprised.
'Yes, a little.'
What? How can I possibly sound Australian? Either my accent or changing or that travel agent has hearing issues.

English accent and Australian accent does sound somewhat similar. :P

My guess is that the travel agent is neither British, nor Australian or kiwi, but originally from another country.
When I was travelling for most of the year back in 2006 I met quite a number of people who thought I was anything but British. The most number of people thought I was...Australian.

James,
They don't sound similar!
Mark,
The travel agent was definitely British(!). Where were you travelling in 2006? It can't have been Japan as the average person tends to think a white person must be American.

Got a good laugh from that. I wouldn't have imagined your accent could be mistaken for an Australian's.
That reminds me of a TV show with a couple of New Zealanders living in the US who are usually mistaken for being English or Australian.
But yes, British accents are nothing like Australian.

Thank you!
I thought I was poor when it comes to accents but this guy takes the biscuit! A very friendly chap though, it has to be said.

Was it because you had a tan? Most Aussies seem to be sun-lovers.
