For a Saturday, today was chaotic on the London Underground. Maybe I’m exaggerating slightly put travelling across London and then back again later in the evening, it seemed as though it was rush day not rush hour – not that there should be a rush hour at the weekend.
Perhaps people have started their Christmas shopping? The engineering works certainly weren’t helping – how long have they been going on for?! Every train I got on was packed and to make matters worse there was a signal failure at Covent Garden. This meant that travelling from Holborn to Covent Garden took at least 15-20 minutes – bearing in mind it takes about 5 min to walk the same distance!
Just thinking about my annual season ticket soon just makes me feel sick! Worth way over £1000? No.

It was madness today. I suppose I could have walked a stop or two but at least I can try and claim a refund. It didn’t help that one branch of the Northern line and the whole of the Victoria line were closed for engineering works.
Yeah, with everybody being herded onto the remaining lines, things really get cramped. I forgot all about the tube refund – good call.
I think I remember TFL saying that between October sometime, until the end of the year every weekend would have at least 6 line closures. And next year in the run up to the Olympics it could get even worse with more entire section closures like the one over summer on the Circle and District Lines between Edgware Rd and High St Ken.
And I agree it was packed in London today. I know one of the reasons was the shops were running special early sales to help kick off the Xmas period and to get people spending money.
So they are actually ramping up the engineering works? If that’s the case I think I’ll try and avoid using the tube at all costs until after Christmas.
I hadn’t heard about the early Christmas sales. Have you started your shopping?
I think engineering works in general are ramping up before the Olympics. Every other road I go down these days has road works. The tube always has something shut or exit only and Crossrail isn’t helping that.
Needed some new shirts, 20% off is better than nothing!
