Air-conditioned Tube

Today London saw its first air-conditioned Tube train going into service!

Air-conditioned trains will be introduced to the Circle Line, the Hammersmith & City Line, and finally the District Line, by 2015.

I think I’ll have to move to a location on the Met Line until 2015 :)

Woohoo! I might now stay on the Met line all the way home, instead of switching to the air conditioned mainline.

Only downside is, this is the first train of like 80 for the Met line. And the roll out is suppose to take about 6 to 9 months. So I may not even sit on one of these trains for a month or two, or longer!

  • You’re lucky you have the option of an air-conditioned mainline train!

But yes, it’s going to be a while before all of the Met line trains are air-conditioned, isn’t it? I wonder if the non-air-conditioned trains will eventually be phased out? Do they attach the units to old trains?

The plan is to get rid of the old trains, they are ancient! I think most of them are almost 50 years old now, and you can hear that when they move. Plus the new trains are through carriages so it wouldn’t work.

I saw on the new the new train is only going to be running from Wembley Park to Amersham. So won’t even get to see this train for a long time!
