Mac Desire

What on earth is happening? Last night I dreamt of talking to a Apple Mac owning friend of mine. Totally intrigued, I found myself really wanting one. We walked around a shop looking at Macs and their ethernet ports – I was asking if you could plug one directly into my router at home. When I woke up this wanting crave persisted.

My very first computer was a Mac. It was a tough decision but because my school had a fair number of Macs it seemed like a wise choice. I bought a Performa 630 and spent hours on it, tweaking this and that, trying to get it to run as fast as it could. Now, I know next to nothing about how to use Macs.

It wasn’t until I started university that I bought a Windows based PC – I haven’t looked back. Is it time to think about returning to Macs?

Is there anything wrong with wanting a Mac?

You make it sound as if you woke up and started feeling gay or something. ;)

  • There’s nothing wrong with wanting a Mac, in fact, I’d like to understand Macs again. But I can’t be spending that sort of money right now ;(

Get the new mini mac thing where you use your existing monitor, keyboard mouse, etc and you get just a tiny tiny little box. They are about £200 I think. Not sure, can;t remember

Hey Darren, been hanging around your blog for a while – since you were coming back from Japan in fact (am off to Japan myself for a couple of weeks in October, and i’ve been learning the language for 7 weeks now).
I made the move back in 2003, from Windows through Linux and onto an iBook. I’m now on a Mac Mini. I’d like to say that moving to a Mac now will be nothing like the Macs you remember…OSX is fantastic.
My advice: get down to the Apple Store on Regent Street, and have a play around. If you like it, the Mac Mini starts at £360, with the top-spec one (DVDR etc) going for £499.

  • Quik & Mark – yeah, those Mac Minis are tempting. As I am planning on getting a new monitor I guess I’ll have a spare I could use… I trust they use the same 15 pin connectors?
I like the Apple Store on Regent Street. I’ll pop in next time to have a play (and check my e-mail).
